On Thursday 8/25 at 7:00 PM, the Klein Cain Hurricanes stacked up on the scrimmage line against the Summer Creek Bulldogs in a non-conference game located at Klein Memorial stadium. The teams traded blows in a tight season-opener, ending with Klein Cain on top after a thrilling 4th quarter touchdown at the 1-minute mark.

“[going into the first quarter] was a mix of emotions, to be honest, I was nervous and also excited. At the same time the energy was crazy,” said free-safety #31 Will Dorsey.
The start of the first quarter had Klein Cain start out strong and score the first touchdown of the game. The Bulldogs responded and evened up the score. The rest of the 1st quarter consisted of intense gameplay back and forth.
In the second quarter, both teams fought for control of the ball with a constant back and forth. The Bulldogs snuck in a touchdown but left the door open for a Hurricane response. The Hurricanes were able to even up the score again, tying the game at 14. Right before entering the half, Summer Creek stalled at the Hurricane end zone and instead decided to kick a field goal, going into halftime up by three.
“We went into the locker room with the mindset, we’ve practiced harder than them, and we’re more aggressive,” said linebacker #48 Camron Sum.
During the third quarter, Summer Creek was given the opportunity to gain a bigger lead after Klein Cain fumbled the ball. The Bulldogs were able to hold off the Hurricanes as the third quarter drug on, with neither team able to make significant gains. The quarter ended with Summer Creek retaining a three-point lead.

In the last quarter, flags were called on both teams, and Summer Creek was able to bring in another touchdown. This left the Hurricanes to be down even further by 10 points. However, the Hurricanes were able to score making them now down by 3 points. The rest of the quarter was a super intense battle with each team fighting to defend their endzone. Eventually with a minute and one second left in the fourth quarter. Wide receiver number 8 Jaelen Smith scored the game-winning touchdown.
“It felt like we just won the Superbowl. Everyone was so proud to prove everyone wrong,” said Dorsey.
With the Bulldogs unable to respond in time, the Klein Cain Hurricanes came out victorious for their season opener. One thing is for certain, the Klein Cain community is excited to see the momentum from last night’s win carry on throughout the season.
“This win feels amazing, and just proves that rankings mean nothing,” said Sum.
