On this Valentine’s Day, many children are being forced to forgo exchanging cards with their friends due to sickness. In the spirit of spreading loving care to those who could truly benefit from some encouragement, many hospitals across the US are facilitating free e-cards that you can send to their patients — both physical and digital.

St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital at the moment has the option for anyone in the world to send an e-card to one of their young patients. In each e-card, artwork created by their patients is featured, so that when you send a child a card, they can see their own artwork.

“I feel that sending love to these children is important,” said junior Josh Erales.

Each card includes sweet notes such as “You’re Purrr…fect!”, “You Brighten the Cloudiest Days,” and “You’re a Super Valentine!” Furthermore, participants have the option to add a personalized message.

“I think that kids recovering or suffering from ailments could greatly benefit from some positivity,” junior Carter Nicol said. “I think that’s a big part of the healing process.”

Along with goodie bags, the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles hand-delivers cards made by participants. And like St. Jude, each card also features three clever notes participants can choose from, these notes being “You’re T-rrific,” “You’re Dino-mite,” “You’re the TriceraTOPS”.

“It’s a cool thing to do,” senior Brian Esparza said. “Sending these kids a pick-me-up is important during these times.”

At Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, participants are able to select three different Valentine’s Day cards featuring a sloth, llama or a unicorn, along with a personal message. If the hospital receives 10,000 Valentine’s cards, the William P. and Bella Cohen Family Foundation has opted in to send a stuffed animal to every patient, the hospital announced on their website.
